Google is finally giving Pixel users more control over one of the most frequently used parts of Android. The latest Android 17 QPR2 beta adds a new Layout editor for Quick Settings, allowing users to change the order of its main sections instead of being stuck with Google’s default arrangement. The feature also appeared in the latest Android Canary build, suggesting Google moved it fairly quickly from testing to the QPR2 beta. There are six layouts to choose from The new option appears after opening Quick Settings and tapping the pencil icon. A new Layout tab at the bottom lets…
I’ve been using Windows laptops for almost 25 years. In that time, I never once seriously thought of buying a MacBook. In fact, I can honestly say I had never used one at all until I bought my MacBook Air M5 six months ago. Never borrowed one for a weekend, spent an afternoon at an Apple Store, or even played with one at a friend’s house. Macs, to me, were just expensive computers for those who edited videos, made logos, or liked drinking expensive coffee. My change came completely by accident. Earlier this year, I was travelling across Manali in…
Whether you are trying to keep your invoices organized for tax season or just want a digital backup of important papers, scanning documents on your iPhone is one of those small habits that pays off later. That’s why document scanning apps have become so popular on the App Store. But what most people don’t realize is that you do not need to download a single third-party scanner app. Your iPhone already has several built-in tools that do the job well, and today I will show you how to use them. Scan documents using the Notes app If Apple Notes is…
Apple has added several new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro configurations to its Certified Refurbished Store, alongside more iPhone 16 Plus models and Apple Watches. The MacBook Air additions arrive at a particularly useful time. New M5 MacBook Air models are currently running in short supply across Apple’s retail network, with some configurations facing delivery estimates stretching into late August or September. Apple also raised MacBook Air prices in June, so students shopping before the new school year are being asked to spend more while potentially waiting longer to get one. Refurbished MacBooks could help with the supply problem The…
Apple has a memory problem. With the global chip shortage squeezing supply and pushing prices higher, the company has been looking for more places to source the memory in its devices. Two potential suppliers are in China, but the U.S. government isn’t particularly happy about that idea. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has told Apple that the Trump administration does not want the company buying memory chips from Chinese manufacturers. Apple has reportedly been considering chips from CXMT and YMTC as it tries to expand its supplier options. The move, however, has already attracted…
It happens to all of us. You hand your Pixel phone to a friend to show off a meme, and before you know it, they are swiping through your messages. Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 finally gives Pixel users a way to stop that, with a native App Lock feature baked right into the system. It’s the kind of small addition Pixel fans have wanted for ages. How does the new app lock actually work? Long-press on any app icon, and you will spot App Lock sitting alongside the familiar App info, Pause app, Widgets, and other options in the…
WhatsApp will finally let you react with the emoji you actually want, but there’s a catch
Emoji reactions are one of the best features of WhatsApp. They let you quickly respond to a message with a simple long-press and tap, and they come in really handy when you are in a hurry or don’t need a word salad to respond. However, one issue WhatsApp users have always dealt with is that the emoji tray was not customizable, so you were stuck with the emojis WhatsApp offered. But that might be about to change with a future update. When did WhatsApp start working on this? WhatsApp started testing a custom reaction tray on Android last month, and…
If you’re looking to buy a new TV in 2026, the two options you’ll be picking from are QLED and OLED. OLED holds the edge in contrast, but QLED is way brighter and often more affordable, too. If you’re interested in buying one of the best TVs out there, then it’s well worth taking a look at these top QLEDs. They offer the best brightness, some of the most vibrant HDR highlights, and richer colors than ever. The best QLEDs come in a range of sizes and at a range of prices. Picking the best one can be tricky, but…
U.S. courts are set to begin publicly reporting how often federal judges authorize the government to use spyware and hacking tools to intercept real-time communications, giving the public its first standardized view of how frequently these surveillance techniques are being used. The change will begin with data collected for the 2028 Wiretap Report, which will be published in 2029. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts told TechCrunch that the report will introduce a new “spyware/hacking” category covering wiretaps conducted using hacking tools and spyware, known to federal authorities as network investigative techniques, or NITs. A new window into government…
I have been following rumors about Google’s new HiLight feature long before the company even announced its name. A few weeks ago, reports spoke about the feature as Google’s AI interface, something that glows when users speak to Gemini. Now that the company has wrapped the Pixel 11 launch event, everything’s out in the open, and one of the only two things it does is light up when you speak to Gemini. So, after all the speculations and build-up, Google’s big reveal is… basically the same thing we thought it was, and I have some strong thoughts about that. I…
