Cracking your foldable’s screen has always been an expensive mistake, but Samsung just put an actual price on it this year, and believe me, it’s more expensive than I initially thought it would be. The company confirmed official repair pricing for the entire Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup, and fixing the inner display alone can cost more than some budget phones do new. Given that more people are buying into the category, making these revised repair costs all the more important to know before you take the plunge. So how much does it actually cost to fix the screens? If…
Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, the 2023 Harry Potter game that has sold more than 22 million copies, is in development in its latest financial earnings report. The company refers to it as the “second installment” of Hogwarts Legacy, stopping short of giving it an official title. Developer Avalanche, which made the first game, is presumably the primary studio behind this sequel. It’s not surprising that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is happening, considering it was the best-selling game of 2023, beating out the usual top-spot holder, Call of Duty, which received a new sequel that…
The US is trying to kick foreign robots out, but the local supply chain might not be there yet
The FCC has a track record of using its Covered List to squeeze Chinese tech out of American markets, and robots just became its newest target. Foreign-made humanoids, quadrupeds, and even robot vacuums now need to be mostly built in the U.S. to sell here (via Rest of World). So what does the new rule actually require? The FCC added “advanced robotic devices” to its Covered List last month, the same national security roster that’s previously blocked devices from Chinese companies like Huawei and ZTE. New models of foreign-made humanoids, quadrupeds, robot vacuums, and even lawn mowers are now barred…
A TikTok video usually leads to a new recipe or a dance trend. This one led researchers straight to a brand-new species of fish. Scientists have discovered a new genus and species of underground earthworm eel living beneath the Indo-Gangetic Plain in Bihar, northern India. Named Gangaichthys indonepalicus, it’s the first subterranean eel ever recorded from the Gangetic Basin, and it all started with a random borewell (drilled well) video. The study was published in ZooKeys and led by an international team from the Thackeray Wildlife Foundation, Shivaji University, the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and the Zoological Survey of India.…

OnePlus is gearing up for the launch of the OnePlus 16, and if the latest leak holds up, the phone’s display could be its biggest talking point. The screen is tipped to sip less power, last twice as long, and pack thinner bezels all around, a solid trio of upgrades for something you’ll be staring at all day. Does this display actually beat Samsung’s screens? As reported by Notebookcheck, tipster Digital Chat Station wrote on Weibo that OnePlus and BOE have jointly developed a new X4 light-emitting material for the OnePlus 16’s screen. The material is said to sip far…
Every time I switch from any Android phone to a Pixel, there’s one small gesture missing that always annoys me. From a modern Galaxy phone or even a device from Xiaomi, I can double-tap an empty part of the home screen and immediately turn the display off. Samsung has offered a double-tap to turn off the screen since Android 11. On a Pixel, I still have to reach for the power button. To be fair, Google isn’t the only offender, and Motorola’s stock Android phones, like the Razr Fold, also skip such a basic feature. But this might be changing…
Five different foldable phones in one launch cycle sounds like a lot, at least to me, but that’s reportedly what Samsung has planned for 2027. A new leak lays out a lineup nearly double the size of this year’s three-phone spread. The Korean giant apparently wants to double down on the wide-format design buyers apparently can’t get enough of. Two of them could share the wide-format, passport-shaped design that broke sales records this year. What exactly is Samsung planning to release in 2027? According to a new ETnews report shared by leaker Ice Universe, Samsung’s 2027 foldable slate could include…
Apple’s MacBook Neo has quickly become the laptop that inexpensive Windows machines have to answer. Acer’s latest Go Air has apparently decided that the best response is to start ticking off some of the hardware Apple left behind. Acer has launched a new Go Air configuration in China powered by Intel’s recently released Core 5 320 processor. It comes with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 512GB SSD for CNY 5,499, which converts to roughly $815. Global availability for this specific configuration hasn’t been announced, though it appears to be practically identical to the Acer Swift 14 that was showcased…
Anyone who bought Samsung’s pricey Odyssey series of ultra-wide monitors just found another reason to fill up every inch of it. Samsung has become the official TV, monitor, soundbar, and Wi-Fi speaker partner for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with Activision and Samsung integrating HDR10+ Gaming into the upcoming shooter. This isn’t just a simple partnership that brings some cool stickers or logos either; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will officially launch with support for a 32:9 aspect ratio. It gives Odyssey G9 owners a considerably wider view of the battlefield. The partnership stretches beyond display support too,…
