Planning a get-together over group chats can get messy fast. Someone misses the message, someone else asks for the address again, and there’s always that one friend who isn’t on WhatsApp at all. WhatsApp’s latest Events update could make organizing those plans a little easier, and it’s arriving just in time for the holiday season.
Can friends without WhatsApp join your events?
Yes, and I think that’s the most useful addition here. Set up your event, give it a nice cover image, and send the invite link to anyone you want. Even if your friends don’t have a WhatsApp account, they can open the link, look at what’s planned, and let you know if they’re coming.
There’s also a new Events Home where you can find all your plans. You can design personalized invitations, see who’s attending, schedule reminders so nobody forgets, and allow guests to bring someone along.
To get there, head to Settings and tap Events. It shows every event you have hosted or been invited to, whether it already happened or is still coming up.
Is your phone number safe?
There are a few privacy details worth knowing, too. People you don’t know won’t get access to your number, and friends without WhatsApp only get the address once they confirm they’re attending. Your regular chats and calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption, just like before.
Will this actually make planning easier?
I like that events are finally getting their own space on WhatsApp instead of getting lost in group chats. If you’re the friend who always ends up organizing things, you might spend less time answering the same questions. The feature will reach all users gradually over the next few weeks.
