This ordinary-looking pen can record meetings and generate AI transcripts

Meeting transcription tools have become increasingly popular, but most require a phone, laptop, smart glasses, or a dedicated recorder. Flowtica is taking a different approach with the Scribe, a pen that can write on paper while simultaneously recording conversations and using AI to generate meeting notes and action items.

It looks like a pen, but it’s really a meeting recorder

At first glance, the Flowtica Scribe resembles a standard refillable gel pen. It features a metal body, supports 0.5mm and 0.7mm tips, and can be used on ordinary paper like any other writing instrument.

Inside, however, is a dedicated recording device. The pen uses a built-in MEMS microphone to capture conversations from up to 16.4 feet (5 meters) away and stores recordings locally on its 32GB of onboard storage. Flowtica claims the pen can record for up to 30 hours on a single charge, or up to 100 hours when paired with the optional charging case.

While the pen handles audio capture, the AI processing happens inside the Flowtica mobile app. Recordings are wirelessly synced to a connected smartphone, where they are converted into searchable transcripts and meeting summaries.

A button for marking important moments

One of the more practical features is the FlowMark button built into the pen body. During a meeting, users can press the button to flag important moments for later review in the transcript. It can also be used to manually highlight parts of an ongoing discussion, making it easier to locate key decisions, action items, or notable comments after the meeting.

Once recordings reach the Flowtica app, AI tools automatically organize them into summaries, tasks, and follow-up actions. Users can also photograph handwritten notes, presentation slides, or whiteboards through the phone app, allowing visual materials to be attached with recorded conversations.

Privacy concerns remain

Like any meeting recorder, the Flowtica Scribe raises some obvious privacy questions. The pen does include an LED indicator that shows when recording is active, but the light is fairly subtle and easy to overlook. Unlike smartphones or laptops, which make it obvious when they are being used to capture audio, the Scribe looks almost identical to an ordinary pen.

That design is part of its appeal, but it could also create awkward situations in classrooms, offices, or public spaces where people may not immediately realize that conversations are being recorded. In some ways, the idea of hiding a recorder inside a pen feels more like something from an old spy movie than a modern productivity gadget. Of course, recording laws vary by region, and users are still responsible for obtaining any required consent before capturing conversations.

The Flowtica Scribe supports 39 languages and works with both iOS and Android devices. It is available now in Satin Gunmetal and Silver Gray finishes. There are two versions of the device. The Standard edition costs $159 and includes the pen, charging cable, and 20 ink refills. The $209 Complete Set adds a charging case and three months of Flowtica Premium.

Buyers should also keep in mind that many of the pen’s AI features are tied to a subscription. Device owners receive 300 minutes of AI processing per month for free, while the Premium plan costs $14.90 per month and increases that allowance to 1,200 minutes. An Unlimited plan is also available for $29.90 per month and removes processing limits altogether.
