We recently heard rumors that Samsung might swap the Snapdragon chips in its upcoming Galaxy S27 flagship series for its own Exynos 2700. Those rumors claimed the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme 6th Gen had overheating issues, which Qualcomm quickly dispelled. However, it seems Samsung is going ahead with its plan, and performance, not heating, could be the main reason.

As reported by EBN, Samsung put its new chip through internal testing on a Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, and the Exynos 2700 came out ahead of Qualcomm’s flagship Extreme chip.

How much faster is the Exynos 2700?

The Exynos 2700 hit roughly 13,000 points in Geekbench 6.5’s multi-core test, while Qualcomm’s Extreme chip managed about 11,000. That gives Samsung a lead of around 20%, and it stayed about 15% ahead on Geekbench 7.0.

Things look even better for Samsung when you pit it against the Xiaomi 18 Pro, which runs Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon 8 Elite 6th Gen. On those same two tests, the Exynos 2700 pulled ahead by 44% and 36%.

Gamers have reason to smile, too. When pushed to its limits in graphics-heavy titles built on cutting-edge rendering tech, the Exynos 2700 was about 20% faster than the Extreme chip. Even in everyday 3D gaming, it kept a small 5% edge.

Will it keep your phone cool?

Big numbers mean little if your phone turns into a hand warmer. Samsung plans to manufacture the Exynos 2700 on its second-generation 2nm process (SF2P), paired with an upgraded Heat Pass Block (HPB) packaging design that should help the chip run cooler and faster.

The Exynos 2600 that came before it is found in some Galaxy S26 models and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. If these results hold up in real-world use, Galaxy S27 buyers could be in for a speedy surprise when the phones arrive early next year.
