Roku is rolling out a new interactive experience called Roklue that turns aimless channel browsing into a pop culture game designed to help users discover new shows and movies.

According to Roku, the Roklue experience lives right on the home screen and doesn’t need any downloads or setup. The first edition, dubbed “Roklue: Awards Season,” will go live on March 7 and is themed around the biggest moments in Hollywood awards history and celebrated films. In the experience, players can answer trivia questions and instantly launch corresponding shows or movies.

Roklue builds on Roku’s existing trivia feature but adds richer interactivity and direct links to shows and films on the platform. This approach reflects a broader trend in streaming to gamify parts of the experience and give users reasons to explore beyond their usual watch lists.

Talking about the feature, Lisa Holme, Head of Content at Roku Media, said, “At Roku, we’re creating experiences you can’t get anywhere else — streaming that is interactive, fun, and powered by the full breadth of content on the platform. Roklue will connect streamers to shows and movies in a way that makes discovery feel less like work and more like play.”

More themed experiences will follow

Roku says the experience will evolve with new editions based on different themes. After the awards-focused edition, the company plans to roll out new themes tied to other major cultural events throughout the year, giving viewers fresh ways to test their pop culture knowledge while finding new content.

Other platforms have previously experimented with similar strategies. Netflix has offered interactive stories and trivia-style experiences in the past, while Amazon Prime Video has implemented X-Ray trivia to keep viewers engaged. Roku’s Roklue takes this a step further by combining trivia, interactivity, and instant access to content, turning discovery into a game right on the home screen.
