Portable chargers are boring — that’s not necessarily a criticism. Most power banks are supposed to be boring. They sit in a backpack, save your phone from dying, and disappear back into a drawer when they’re done. Every year, companies try to spice things up with bigger batteries, faster charging, or sleeker designs, but the basic formula rarely changes.

That’s why Nimble’s new SharePower immediately caught my attention. It may be the coolest power bank idea I’ve seen in years, not because it charges faster than the competition, but because it solves a surprisingly human problem. SharePower is a 10,000mAh portable charger composed of two magnetically attached 5,000mAh batteries. Snap them together, and you have a standard power bank. Pull them apart, and each half becomes its own portable charger. So, you can literally split your battery with someone else.

Finally, a power bank designed for real life

If you’ve ever traveled with friends, spent a day at a convention, attended a concert, or sat through a delayed flight, you’ve probably encountered the universal modern panic: somebody’s phone is about to die. Normally, helping them means handing over your charger and hoping they return it before your own battery starts looking dangerous. SharePower changes that equation — one-half stays with you, the other goes to whoever forgot to charge their phone.

It’s such an obvious idea that I’m honestly surprised nobody has made it mainstream before. The design itself is thoughtfully executed, too. One module includes a foldaway USB-C connector and a battery percentage display, while the second half carries its own integrated USB-C cable. According to Nimble, the two modules can also charge multiple devices simultaneously, making the setup even more flexible than a traditional battery pack.

A genuinely clever twist on a crowded category

What I like most about SharePower is that it feels like actual innovation. The portable charger market is packed with products competing over charging speeds and battery capacities. Those improvements matter, but they’re also predictable. SharePower takes a different approach by rethinking how people actually use power banks in everyday situations.

Electronics, Adapter, Phone

Nimble is also releasing a translucent Liquid Crystal Edition that gives the charger a more distinctive look than the sea of black rectangles that dominate the category today. Will SharePower revolutionize portable charging? Probably not. But it’s rare to see a gadget and immediately think, “Why hasn’t anyone done that before?” That’s exactly the reaction I had when I saw a power bank that breaks in half so you can share your battery. And honestly, that’s the coolest charging idea I’ve seen in a long time.
