In typical Motorola fashion, the Razr series has leaked once again, and this time we’re getting our first proper look at the Razr 70 Ultra. The renders come courtesy of XpertPick, in collaboration with Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known as OnLeaks on X (formerly Twitter).

Is there anything fresh here?

The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra isn’t really shaking things up. According to Steve Hemmerstoffer, it’s said to measure around 9.6mm thick, including the camera bump, and about 17.63mm when folded, cameras included. So, don’t expect it to feel any different in hand compared to last year’s Razr 60 Ultra. And visually as well, it’s more of the same story. You’re still getting that large 7-inch foldable display on the inside and a 4-inch cover screen on the outside. Which sounds great, until you realize… we’ve already seen this before.

At this point, it’s hard to ignore the feeling that Motorola is playing it very safe. There’s no bold redesign or major shift, nothing that really makes you stop and look twice. From what we can tell so far, this feels less like a new generation and more like a refresh with a new name slapped on it.

So, what do I actually think?

I’ll be very honest, nothing here really screams “new.” From what we’ve seen so far, the Razr 70 Ultra feels almost identical to its predecessor, the Razr 60 Ultra. And sure, I’m willing to wait and see what Motorola brings to the table internally. Specifications, performance, software tricks — those things can still make a difference. But if history is anything to go by, this might just be another rinse-and-repeat situation.

Now, sticking with the same design isn’t always a bad thing. Familiarity has its own charm, and if something already works, there’s no need to fix it. But there’s a fine line between consistency and complacency, and this is where things start to feel a bit too safe. At some point, you expect a brand to push the envelope, especially in a category as exciting as foldables. Because let’s face it, if there’s no real innovation, it becomes harder to take these devices seriously. And in a space where competition is only getting sharper, playing it safe every year isn’t the best long-term strategy.

As of now, there’s no official word on when the Razr 70 Ultra will launch. If Motorola follows its usual playbook, we’ll likely see it debut in China first, with a wider rollout to other markets shortly after.
