Microsoft is the next brand to slap a pretty major price hike on its computing devices, and it’s not subtle at all. The brand’s popular Surface laptops are seeing a rise in price tags across the lineup. And just like before, the memory shortage and component costs are to blame. The updated pricing is already reflected on the Microsoft Store for the current-generation hardware portfolio.

How big are the price hikes?

The most eye-catching jumps hit Microsoft’s flagship devices. According to Windows Central, the Surface Pro 13-inch, which was originally launched at $999, now starts at $1,499. Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 13.8-inch has seen a similar jump, going from $999 to $1,499. In other words, both laptops now cost $500 more than they did at launch.

The increases aren’t limited to the premium end either. The Surface Pro 12-inch, which debuted at $799 in 2025, is currently listed for $1,049, while Microsoft’s entry-level 13-inch Surface Laptop has gone up from $899 to $1,149, and the 15-inch Surface Laptop now costs $1,599 instead of $1,299. Even the more affordable Surface options are not pushing into territory that used to belong to the flagship models.

What’s causing this price hike?

Microsoft has directly attributed the change to rising memory and component costs, as the company isn’t immune to the wider supply pressure in the RAM market. The explanation may seem reasonable, but it does not make the sticker shock any easier to swallow. Mid-range Surface devices now start above $1,000, while the flagship models start at $1,500. So it’s no surprise that the MacBook Neo with a $599 is seeing such high demand.

If you were already thinking Surface hardware was pricey, it just got a lot harder to defend.
