Black Friday is a good time to shop for an e-bike, particularly if you’ve been waiting for a discount on something with plenty of power, a comfortable riding position, and features that make everyday rides easier. The Velotric Discover 3 has all three, and after taking it for a ride, I found quite a few things to like.

The Discover 3 normally costs $1,999, but Velotric has dropped the price to $1,899 for Black Friday. The promotion also includes a free Rack Top Bag and Left Mirror, valued at $135.98 combined, bringing the total advertised savings to $235.98.

I’ve ridden quite a few e-bikes, and the Discover 3 made a great first impression. Mine is Mint, a lovely color I haven’t come across on another e-bike, but as much as I appreciate how it looks, it’s the riding experience that really caught my attention.

The throttle is a lot of fun, but the brakes impressed me too

I’m a sucker for a throttle, so when I saw that the Discover 3 had one, I had to give it a try right away. I hadn’t even left my driveway before pressing the thumb throttle, and off I went without pedaling at all. The acceleration immediately caught my attention, and I loved how quickly the bike got moving.

The Discover 3 has a 750W motor that delivers 75Nm of torque, giving it plenty of power for getting up to speed. The thumb throttle lets you accelerate without pedaling, which is great when you’re starting from a stop or want to give your legs a break.

During my ride, I comfortably reached 20 mph, and the brakes were just as impressive as the acceleration. They responded quickly and brought the bike to a stop without any issues, which is important when you’re riding through neighborhoods, approaching intersections, or sharing the road with traffic. I appreciate a bike that can get moving quickly, but being able to stop confidently matters just as much.

The Discover 3 also offers five pedal-assist modes and Velotric’s SensorSwap technology, which lets you switch between torque and cadence sensing. Torque sensing adjusts assistance based on how hard you’re pedaling, while cadence sensing responds to pedal rotation. There’s also one-touch class switching between Class 1, 2, and 3, with a Custom Mode that can unlock pedal-assist and throttle speeds of up to 28 mph where permitted.

Comfortable handlebars and features you’ll actually use

One thing I noticed partway through my ride was how comfortable the handlebars felt. Velotric uses swept-back handlebars with ergonomic grips, and I could really appreciate the difference. The angle felt comfortable in my hands and made steering feel relaxed, which isn’t something I notice on every e-bike I ride.

The Discover 3 also includes a suspension seatpost to help absorb bumps, along with a 730Wh battery and an advertised maximum range of up to 80 miles. Velotric separately lists a throttle range of up to 65 miles, although actual results will vary depending on riding conditions, terrain, and how much assistance you’re using.

There are also some thoughtful features that make the Discover 3 appealing for everyday use, including support for Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find Hub networks, which can help you locate the bike using a compatible device. There’s also NFC card unlocking for keyless access, along with smart tuning options that let riders adjust motor response through the app.

Another feature I appreciate is the 500-lumen headlight and integrated turn signals. With the days getting shorter and darkness arriving so early this time of year, having a bright headlight is a welcome addition, while the turn signals are useful when riding around neighborhoods or in traffic. The rear rack is another practical feature, supporting up to 66 pounds of cargo and giving you room to carry groceries, a bag, or other essentials without needing to wear a backpack.

Black Friday brings nearly $236 in savings

If you’ve been considering the Discover 3, Velotric’s Black Friday promotion makes it a little easier to justify. The bike is currently $1,899, down from $1,999, and Velotric is including a free Rack Top Bag and Left Mirror valued at $135.98 combined. That’s $235.98 in total advertised savings when you factor in both the discount and accessories.

Between the responsive throttle, comfortable handlebars, practical features, and Black Friday savings, the Velotric Discover 3 is worth considering if you’re shopping for an e-bike this holiday season.
