Epic Games has just announced the 2026 Epic AI MegaJam, which is looking to see how much game development can be squeezed into a very short window. This is running from November 12 through November 15.

Participants can work alone or in teams of up to five people, build in Unreal Engine or Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and bring along “as many AI agents as you want.” Epic explicitly encourages coding agents, AI-generated assets, audio tools, writing tools, and other AI systems. The official event page literally says “Vibe your way to $50k.”

Epic is putting real money behind vibe coding

The jam has $65,000 in regular cash prizes spread across categories. The best Unreal Engine game, best UEFN game, and best student project each get $7,500 for first place, alongside smaller second- and third-place awards. Other categories reward the best solo developer, team, mobile game, visuals, dev log, and even a narrative-driven UEFN project using LLM-powered NPCs.

Standout Unreal Engine and UEFN entries can receive Development Continuation Grants of up to $50,000, with additional $25,000 and $10,000 grants available beneath the top award in each track. The official preperation guide tells developers to get their coding agents and Model Context Protocol tools working before kickoff, because configuring them during the jam would waste precious build time.

More games doesn’t automatically mean better games

Someone without a large team can potentially turn an idea into something playable in a weekend. Epic also adds that judges will score entries on innovation, gameplay, visuals, level design, audio, and whether the finished game is actually fun to play.

Still, this arrives at a time of gaming’s growing AI anxiety. We covered industry research earlier this year showing 52% of game professionals viewed generative AI negatively, even as adoption continued growing. We’ve also seen vibe coding contribute to a huge increase in new game releases without necessarily producing better games.

Epic, in recent times, have been moving towards more AI adoption. Unreal Engine 5.8 introduced an experimental MCP plugin that lets language models interact with engine systems, and Epic has described deeper AI integration as part of Unreal Engine’s future.

To Epic’s credit, the MegaJam FAQ says using AI is not actually mandatory. Developers can participate without it. Even then, when the event is called the AI MegaJam, tells you to bring unlimited agents, and headlines itself with “Vibe your way to $50k,” it’s fairly obvious which experiment Epic wants everyone to run.
