Qualcomm is set to ratchet up chip prices in September, and your next gadget upgrade could bear the brunt

I want you to sit with this for a second. Qualcomm, the company whose Snapdragon chips sit inside your Android phone and tablet, your Windows laptop, your Meta smart glasses, your Galaxy Watch, and your wireless earbuds, reportedly sent a letter to every major customer telling them prices are going up by double digits.  The price hike will be in effect from September 1, 2026, a recent Bloomberg report claims. Essentially, all the companies placing their chip orders after that will pay a higher price.  Why is Qualcomm raising prices now, and who is actually to blame? Qualcomm isn’t doing…

The Minimal Phone 2 looks dramatically better than the original, and I’m genuinely here for it

I’ve been following the Minimal Phone since its initial crowdfunding days. The first iteration had the right idea trapped inside the wrong body, I’d say. Plastic build, no 5G, an underwhelming camera, and e-paper ghosting that frustrated early adopters; all these issues kept the phone from reaching a wider audience.  Now, founder Armen Youssefian has posted what appears to be a 360-degree render of the Minimal Phone 2 on X, and from what I can see, the team has done its homework. What do the renders actually reveal about the MP02’s design? Quite a bit, actually. The phone will be…

The EU says TikTok still isn’t doing enough to protect kids

The European Commission has accused TikTok of falling short on protecting minors, saying the platform’s current account settings don’t meet the child safety standards required under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The findings are preliminary, but if upheld, TikTok could face a fine of up to 6% of its global annual revenue. Why the EU thinks TikTok isn’t doing enough According to the Commission, TikTok allows minors to set their accounts to public, making their content visible to anyone — including people without a TikTok account. Regulators also say that content posted by older teenagers (aged 16 and 17) can…

The hottest indie game on Steam just had a malware scare

One of Steam’s biggest success stories of 2026 has suddenly found itself at the center of a security scare. A security researcher has discovered that a community-made Meccha Chameleon Workshop map contained code designed to write files outside the game and launch a hidden PowerShell process that attempted to download an additional payload from an external server. How did a custom map become malware? The investigation, published by security researcher Feint, began after players noticed a Command Prompt window briefly flashing on screen while Steam downloaded a custom Workshop map called Laser Tag Neon. Digging deeper, the researcher found that…

Tesla’s hidden door problem might end up fixing every car in America

Tesla’s electronic door handles have been a safety talking point for years, mostly on Reddit threads and EV forums where people debate whether sleek design is worth the tradeoff when a car is on fire and power is out.  Now the US government has formally weighed in (via The Washington Post). The outcome, I’d say, is bigger than most people think. Why did NHTSA say no to a Tesla investigation but yes to new rules? Because the agency already has ongoing investigations into door-release systems on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. So, opening another would be a sheer…

I desperately want a new classic Walkman, but Sony probably can’t give me one

Every few months, another piece of tech that seems obsolete crawls out of a drawer and becomes cool again. The age of minimalism has revived the popularity of iPods among younger buyers. Dumbphones have become an escape hatch from endless notifications. Similarly, digital cameras are dangling from bags again. Physical media keeps attracting people who want something they can actually hold instead of another frustrating subscription. All of this makes it the perfect time for Sony to bring back the classic Walkman, which was a phenomenon during the 80s and 90s. I would love one. Give me a compact cassette…

Stop fighting with your roomie over outlets and get one of these multi-port chargers before you head back to school

Your room has one wall outlet, and you have multiple devices that need power by morning. Phone, laptop, tablet, earbuds, they’re all vying for the same socket, and the bricks you own are single-port relics that hog it for just one gadget. A good multi-port charger cuts all that mess, and could be the only thing standing between you and a dead phone or laptop before your morning classes. Back-to-school season is…

Back-to-school phone shopping on a tight budget? Here’s the one phone I’d recommend without hesitation

Somewhere between the last day of school and the first day back, your phone conked out. Perhaps the screen shattered after a particularly nasty fall, or its battery regularly gives up by noon, or apps take so long to launch that by the time they do, you’ve forgotten why you opened them in the first place. You don’t think it’ll last another school year, but between all the school supplies and everything else, a budget phone is all your wallet can handle right now. Fortunately for you, cheap phones have come a long way, offering better screens, bigger batteries, and…
