NASA built the Roman Space Telescope to study dark matter, but it can also help protect Earth from killer asteroids
NASA is about to launch a telescope built to unlock some of the universe’s biggest mysteries, and it turns out that same design could help protect Earth along the way. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is set to launch from Kennedy Space Center on August 30, 2026, with a primary mission focused on studying dark matter and dark energy – the invisible forces shaping galaxies and cosmic expansion. Researchers now say its unique design also makes it unexpectedly effective at spotting dangerous asteroids headed our way (via MIT Technology Review). What makes the Roman Telescope capable of hunting killer…
Bose’s standard QuietComfort headphones appear to be on the verge of their first major refresh in nearly three years, and a large collection of official-looking images has now revealed the redesign in full. HotEUDeals, in collaboration with @onLeaks, has shared 54 high-resolution press renders and six Bose marketing slides for the QuietComfort (2nd Gen). The images show the headphones from several angles in six color options. Black and White Smoke return from the previous model, while Rosewood Mauve, DewDrop Mint, Eucalyptus Green, and Hazelnut Taupe are new additions. Their features, pricing, and expected launch plans were first detailed by Dealabs…
The iPhone Air is often dismissed as an experiment that didn’t achieve the same success as Apple’s other products. However, a fresh leak suggests Apple may view the slim iPhone differently, treating its design language as something that could eventually make its way into the mainstream lineup. So what’s this cooling upgrade actually about? Tipster Fixed Focus Digital, via Weibo, claims the iPhone 20 lineup could borrow its mid-frame construction directly from the iPhone Air and return to a glass-heavy enclosure design. Alongside that shared design language and thin chassis profile, the leak points to a vapor chamber that has…
Google Home’s Interactive Storytime feature has me wondering who actually asked for this
Google Home’s latest update introduces several new features, including Gemini-powered Interactive Storytime. While I’m not sure who asked for the feature, it lets families build original stories about specific topics on the fly, instead of just listening to a known story. So what’s the big new feature here? You can ask for something completely original, like a secret agent hamster adventure, or drop your kids’ actual names into a Mars expedition tale. The fun part, according to Google, is jumping in mid-story to redirect things. We’re always working to make your Google Home experience even better ✨Dive into our latest…
Sunbird relaunches its iMessage app for Android, three years after a privacy scandal shut it down
Sunbird’s blue bubble dream for Android users is making another attempt, and this time the company insists it’s actually earned your trust. Sunbird Messaging, the app that lets Android users join iMessage conversations without the green bubble stigma, is now available on the Google Play Store after sitting dormant since 2023. Back then, security researchers discovered the app was sending Apple ID credentials over unencrypted connections and quietly logging user messages through a debugging tool, despite Sunbird’s public claims of full end-to-end encryption. The fallout forced both Sunbird and its Nothing Phone partnership to shut down almost overnight. What’s new…
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the latest game to grace the cover of Game Informer, and I traveled all the way to Osaka, Japan, to play the game for hours in Capcom’s HQ, interview the developers making it, and learn how the team was returning to this samurai action franchise that hasn’t had a new release in 20 years. I spoke to director Satoru Nihei and animation team lead Hiroshi Yugen about the studio’s approach to reinventing and updating combat, and learned the biggest goal at Capcom was to take the action of the cutscenes in previous games and make that the…
Samsung recently unveiled its latest premium smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 9 series and the flagship Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Both come with fairly high price tags, but Samsung may already be preparing a more affordable alternative. References found by SamMobile inside the Galaxy Wearable app point to a new smartwatch codenamed Galaxy Aero. More importantly, the code describes it as “galaxy_rtos_watch,” suggesting that it could run a real-time operating system instead of Google’s Wear OS. What is RTOS, and why would Samsung use it? RTOS stands for Real-Time Operating System. It is a lightweight platform designed to perform a…
After weeks of rumors around another round of hikes, Asus and Gigabyte have pulled the plug. They’ve made the impending price hike official, increasing prices across their entire RTX 50 lineup, and even AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 cards. It’s worth mentioning that both companies already raised prices in January, blaming the ongoing DRAM and NAND memory shortage and surging costs. From what it looks like, things have only gotten worse since. How bad is the price hike? According to a VideoCardz report, the latest price hike affects the best Nvidia GPUs in the worst possible manner. The Nvidia GeForce RTX…
Google may finally be ready to launch its own answer to the AirTag, but it apparently won’t rely on a lower price to win over Android users. The Pixel Tag is expected to cost €34.90 in Europe, according to Dealabs. Apple charges €35 for a single AirTag in France, leaving Google with a price advantage of just 10 cents. The tracker could be announced during Google’s August 12 hardware event. That price puts the focus squarely on the product itself. Nobody is choosing a tracking ecosystem to save the equivalent of loose change. Google isn’t offering a real discount The…
Huawei made an utterly sleek laptop that’s 35% lighter than MacBook Air. Too bad you don’t need it.
Huawei has made one of the most tempting ultralight laptops most people will probably never consider buying. The new MateBook Pro S weighs just 798 grams in its lightest configuration, making it around 35% lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air. It is slightly thicker at 11.9mm, but Huawei still managed to fit a larger display and a 54Wh battery inside its magnesium-alloy chassis. Its color options are pure eye candy, too. The soft pastel finishes immediately reminded me of the MacBook Neo and give the laptop far more personality than the usual sea of silver, gray, and black ultrabooks. It…
