Apple Watch update makes it easier to understand your sleep quality

Apple has started rolling out watchOS 26.2, a new Apple Watch update. Though the latest firmware doesn’t include many novel features, it introduces a noticeable change to sleep tracking. The sleep scores are now categorized to better indicate how well you actually rested during the night (via 9To5Mac).

Previously, the Apple Watch sleep scores felt more optimistic than accurate. Even on nights with inconsistent sleep, the watch showed an excellent rating in the morning. However, with watchOS 26.2, Apple has addressed the issue by tightening the ratings.

The top category (which is supposed to appear when you sleep really well) is now labeled “Very High.” Furthermore, the thresholds for scores like “High,” “OK,” “Low,” and “Very Low” have been adjusted to feel more realistic, rather than optimistic and generous.

Simplified sleep tracking should help fitness-centric users

Though the company hasn’t changed the mechanism for measuring sleep, it has modified how watchOS presents that data to users. It is a significant change because it provides more honest feedback about users’ sleep. If you wear your Apple Watch to bed, expect more accurate sleep scores that are closer to reality.

Alongside the sleep-tracking improvements, the watchOS 26.2 update also introduced Enhanced Safety Alerts for users in the United States, a feature we discussed a couple of days ago.

Enhanced alerts can notify you about serious nearby threats, such as severe weather or emergencies, directly on your wrist, along with additional information (presented in a rich format rather than plain text). The addition of safety alerts reinforces the smartwatch’s role beyond fitness, making it a real-time awareness tool that sits on users’ wrists.

Furthermore, the company has fixed a bug that caused songs to stop advancing in Apple Music. This could be an essential fix for users who rely on their Apple Watch during workouts or commutes for managing playback. To install the watchOS 26.2 update, your compatible Apple Watch must be paired with an iPhone running on iOS 26.2.

Meanwhile, you can read about the Watch Series 11’s Workout Buddy feature and how it encourages users to complete their activity rings.
