PlotGTM launched a free go-to-market strategy calculator. The tool estimates leads, budget, and cash needs from a revenue goal.

Here’s how most growth plans get made: Pick some channels. Split the budget. Launch. Hope the revenue shows up.

PlotGTM thinks that order is backward, and launched a free calculator built to flip it.

The browser-based tool asks for a few numbers: current revenue, a revenue goal, how long the campaign runs, and basics like lead volume, conversion rate, average order size and margin. Then it does the math most founders skip.

It tells you how many leads you’ll need, what they’ll cost, how to divide the money across paid, earned, shared and owned media, how much cash you need in the bank before launch, and whether the whole thing pays for itself.

Why founders should care

Money is tight, and the people approving budgets want proof.

Marketing budgets came in at 7.8% of company revenue in Gartner’s 2026 CMO Spend Survey, barely up from 7.7% the year before. Forrester predicts two-thirds of business-to-business providers will lose deals over claims they can’t back up, the research firm said.

And for startups, running out of runway is the classic way to die. Of 431 venture-backed shutdowns analyzed by CB Insights, 70% cited running out of capital. The firm said cash is usually the final cause, not the root one.

Here’s how the calculator works

You pick how to size the budget, or let the tool choose:

· Goal-driven: It figures out the budget and monthly leads needed to hit your target.

· Unit economics: It caps spending at one-third of the gross profit the campaign is expected to generate.

· Percentage of revenue: It sets aside 1% to 20% of annual revenue.

The tool uses the numbers you enter as-is. It doesn’t quietly inflate your lead count. Instead, a badge tells you whether your channel mix is strong enough to back each target.

It also adjusts for how long customers take to buy. The longer the sales cycle, the more the tool shifts money away from pay-per-click ads and toward content, PR, email and webinars. That matters most for a go-to-market strategy for software products, where buyers often run a trial, compare options and bring in several people before they sign.

Then it goes further than most planning spreadsheets. It checks whether paid ads cost more per customer than you can afford, estimates return on marketing spend and payback time, maps your cash balance month by month, splits the budget among people, software, customer retention and media, and sketches a six-person marketing team. Each role is marked as an in-house hire or an agency or fractional contract, depending on what you can actually pay for.

What happens when you run the numbers

PlotGTM’s demo scenario is a $5 million company planning a six-month push: 2,000 leads a month, a 4% conversion rate, an $1,800 average order and a 45% gross margin.

Sounds solid. The calculator disagrees.

· The campaign brings in about $1.7 million, just 49% of the $3.5 million gap to the goal.

· Paid search costs an implied $1,907 per customer. The safe ceiling is $972.

· The company needs roughly $65,800 in cash before the campaign starts paying off.

· The recommended team costs $34,800 a month. The people budget is $26,000.

In other words, four problems that would normally surface months into the campaign show up before a dollar is spent.

PlotGTM isn’t promising a crystal ball. The site calls its sales cycle, customer acquisition cost, cost-per-click and channel-impact assumptions “directional, not guarantees” and says the tool is meant to “align stakeholders and pressure-test budget proposals.”

Its assumptions point to published research from Gartner, Forrester, marketing-effectiveness researchers Les Binet and Peter Field, and RAIN Group.
