Back in 2023, Avalanche Studios (also behind Mad Max) let many live their magical dreams of entering the Harry Potter universe once again with Hogwarts Legacy. Players got to experience the magical school of witchcraft and wizardry in next-gen graphics.

Now, a new rumor suggests that Hogwarts Legacy 2 may be closer to its first official reveal. But this is one of those leaks that seems more hopeful than real.

What does the rumor say?

Hogwarts Legacy 2 could appear during Sony’s next State of Play showcase. The post has been interpreted as a tease for a reveal rather than a release date, which is an important distinction. There is currently no official launch window for the sequel, and Warner Bros. Games has not announced a trailer, platform list, or any other important details. What’s interesting is also the timing. Sony just confirmed that its next State of Play will take place on June 2, with more than 60 minutes of updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from studios around the world.

One of the highly anticipated reveals is expected to be Marvel’s Wolverine, which is also the only major title confirmed so far. This leaves a large room for a lot of unannounced big-budget games. While it’s great news for fans of the Harry Potter franchise and the original game, it’s worth noting that there are barely any details to go on right now. So the leak might be more noise than substance. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t hope for a Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Why Warner Bros. already have a reason to bring it back

A Hogwarts Legacy sequel would hardly be surprising. Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels previously said a successor to Hogwarts Legacy was one of the company’s biggest priorities “a couple of years down the road,” according to Variety’s 2024 report. Meaning, expecting the second entry to release later down the road isn’t too far-fetched.

Still, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is likely a part of Warner Bros.’ long-term gaming plans, but a June 2 reveal is not confirmed.
