If you’ve ever bought video-recording kit, you’ve probably heard of SmallRig, with the brand offering all sorts of accessories including camera cages, lights, tripods, phone cages, shoulder rigs and action cameras, and the brand has taken to CES 2026 to push further into the audio sector.

Already SmallRig offers the Forevala U60 USB microphone and S20 camera mic, and now it’s expanded its line-up with the brand-new S70, which has been officially unveiled as part of the Las Vegas tech conference.

The SmallRig S70 is designed for recording on-location audio, but more specifically it was created to solve common issues when you’re recording voices or instruments.

According to the company, it created the microphone by analyzing real-life recording situations, to understand problems that can occur. The S70 offers 9 recording presets to emulate the warmth of a studio recording set-up, and can balance for different kinds of voice or musical instrument.

Finely tuned

To do so SmallRig didn’t work alone, but created the microphone in collaboration with Grammy-winning sound engineer Luca Bignardi.

This continues the company’s legacy of working with content creators to fine-tune its products; in the past it created and released a Tracking POV kit alongside YouTube channel Mikevisuals, and an L-shaped Mount Plate Kit alongside publication LensVid.

These both came from SmallRig’s DreamRig projector, launched in 2017 as an arm of its business which created customized camera accessories for professional users. This lets camera operators and social media creators design products which address specific issues or problems they’ve been having, with the personalized touch letting them create the videos they’ve envisioned.

Since its inception, DreamRig has seen the creation of over 2,700 different accessories, many of which have eventually hit digital store shelves as products available for anyone to buy. That count is increasing all the time, as is the number that SmallRig sells for everyone else to purchase.

SmallRig

In 2024, the brand worked with Gene Nagata from YouTube channel Potato Jet to create the TRIBEX tripod, designed for easy and secure locking and smooth movements.

It also co-designed, alongside Brandon Li, an all-in-one mobile video kit, which combines a cage with a control module and SSD enclosure to make phone videography simple and easy.

This process helps SmallRig’s accessories and products remain competitive for video-makers, as the brand listens to creators to address common pain points and problems, and releases products that offer what they need.

By letting the users co-design the products that they want but which don’t exist, SmallRig can offer devices and solutions which don’t yet exist on the market.

Its push further into the audio recording market promises to expand this prowess into a new kind of vital recording tool, designed with the user in mind.

Yiu can learn more about SmallRig and all its products on its website.
