Chinese smartphone brands have been pushing the boundary with camera and battery tech, and Oppo’s latest flagships are just making this gap even bigger. The Find X10 Pro Max brings big jumps all across. After all, how often do you come across a smartphone packing three 200MP cameras?

Yes, that’s a whopping 600 megapixels spread across the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses. The number is just insane, even by today’s flagship standards. We got a chance to test the devices out, and honestly, cameras isn’t the only thing Oppo got right here. I found a lot to like aside from the camera resolution.

Oppo has managed to bring a remarkable level of consistency across its entire camera system, and that’s an achievement worth crediting. The Hasselblad collab continues with this generation, a massive 8,000mAh battery pack powers this model, and you also get MediaTek’s latest 2nm flagship chip.

A familiar design that puts the cameras front and center

The Find X10 Pro Max takes a relatively straightforward approach to design, with the enormous camera module doing most of the talking (visually speaking at least). The large, rounded-square camera housing dominates the upper portion of the rear panel, while a separate pill-shaped section houses another sensor and flash.

I spent time with the Luna White finish, which has a rather charming camera-inspired aesthetic. The subtle textures, Hasselblad branding, and contrasting sections give the phone a distinct identity without making the overall design unnecessarily complicated. It’s also reassuringly premium, with a sturdy frame and a clean, flat display.

At roughly 233 grams for the Chinese model, this is a noticeably heavy phone. The weight becomes apparent when handling it one-handed, but it’s an understandable compromise considering the massive battery packed inside.

On the front, you are greeted by a gorgeous 6.78-inch flat AMOLED display with crisp visuals, vibrant colors, and excellent outdoor visibility. It supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz for regular use, with Oppo claiming that select games can push that to 144Hz. I haven’t tested that higher refresh rate yet, but everyday navigation was wonderfully fluid.

Three 200MP cameras, and the consistency shows real polish

Oppo has equipped the Find X10 Pro Max with three 200MP rear cameras, making it the first smartphone to offer such a configuration. The main camera uses a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with a 24mm-equivalent focal length. It’s accompanied by a 200MP ultrawide with a 124-degree field of view and a 200MP telephoto offering 3x optical zoom at a 70mm-equivalent focal length.

During my short time with the phone, the main camera delivered impressive dynamic range, retaining plenty of detail across brighter and darker areas of the frame. Colors were natural, with particularly pleasing skin tones that avoided the exaggerated saturation sometimes associated with smartphone photography.

However, the consistency between all three cameras deserves praise. Switching between the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses maintained a similar profile and overall appearance that is great for recording videos. This is what you get on iPhone and Pixels, and it’s always nice to see brands taking time to polish up the little things that further enhances that premium experience.

The telephoto is also surprisingly versatile, with macro focusing capabilities that let you get as close as 10cm to your subject. Xiaomi used to offer this on some of its older flagships, and so I expect macro photography to really benefit from this.

Zoom photography, however, isn’t as versatile when compared to the big brother, the Find X9 Ultra, which features a dedicated 10x optical telephoto camera. The Find X10 Pro Max tops out at 3x optical zoom, with Oppo leveraging the high resolution sensor for additional cropping flexibility. Oppo has an optional Hasselblad teleconverter for greater reach, but it’s not the same as a dedicated sensor.

Open Gate video is something creators would appreciate

Another interesting addition is Open Gate Capture, which Oppo spent some time explaining during my hands-on. Rather than recording video directly into a conventional 16:9 frame, Open Gate captures a larger 4:3 area of the image sensor. This gives creators additional room to crop and reframe their footage afterward.

For example, someone shooting a travel video could capture footage once and subsequently create a widescreen YouTube video and a vertical Instagram Reel or TikTok from the same recording. It’s an incredibly practical approach for creators who regularly publish across multiple platforms.

The Find X10 Pro Max supports Open Gate recording at 0.5x, 1x, and 3x, with resolution reaching 4096 x 3072 at up to 60fps. There’s also support for professional color workflows, including O-Log2 and custom LUTs. Still, the benefits won’t be immediately apparent unless you think about the framing ahead of time.

You still have to ensure important subjects remain visible when cropping into different aspect ratios. Another limitation is that enhanced stabilization is also unavailable in this mode. I haven’t had the opportunity to put Open Gate through a proper recording and editing workflow yet, but I can see how serious content creators might benefit from this.

ColorOS 17 gets even more refined

I’ve generally appreciated Oppo’s approach to Android software, and ColorOS 17 makes an excellent first impression. The interface is fast, responsive, and full of subtle visual refinements. OnePlus and Oppo sharing the same roots, and you see that flavor here as well. Though the iOS inspirations are obvious, with a new frosted-glass aesthetic.

I also appreciate the expanded app folders and the unified notification shade and quick settings layout. Having an iPhone-like swipe down UI was something I loathed for ages, and I am finally getting that option once again.

Oppo Find X10 Pro Max Hands-on

Under the hood, the Find X10 Pro Max runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro, built using a 2nm manufacturing process. In my brief experience, everything from multitasking to switching between the camera and editing apps was quick and responsive. This is one of the fastest mobile chips out there, which keeps up with Qualcomm’s latest chips.

I did get to try out a little bit of gaming, and the phone handled them without any noticeable performance problems. It became slightly warm, as most powerful flagships do, but temperatures remained comfortable overall. Still, a longer gaming session and proper benchmarks will be necessary to assess sustained performance and thermal management.

A massive battery really rounds out the whole experience

The other headline feature is the battery. Oppo has managed to pack a gigantic 8,000mAh battery into the Chinese Find X10 Pro Max, while European versions have a smaller 7,150mAh battery. It is quite a massive capacity for a premium phone, and charging is no slouch either. You get support for 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, which should keep charging times manageable for such a massive battery.

Oppo Find X10 Pro Max Hands-on

I haven’t conducted a full battery test yet, so it’s too early to make any definitive claims about endurance. Even then, the sheer capacity makes the Find x10 Pro Max a promising option for power users and others who spend their days shooting photos, recording videos, and navigating between demanding apps.

As for pricing, the Find X10 Pro Max starts at 1799 Euros (roughly $2,018) for the 12GB + 512GB model.

An impressive first encounter

My early impressions of the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max are quite positive. The cameras are definitely its biggest attraction, and the consistency across three high-resolution sensors is something I genuinely appreciate. Add the refined software, excellent display, and massive battery, and there’s plenty here to make it an appealing all-round flagship.

Oppo paying more attention to creators with features like Open Gate video also leverages the improvements in the camera hardware and their capabilities. I’ll need more time before I share my final thoughts, but so far, the package seems solid.
