For those waiting for a perfect time to jump back into HBO Max, a fresh discount and a new season premiere of House of the Dragon might be the perfect deal. The platform is currently discounting its annual subscription plans ahead of the House of the Dragon season 3 release.

The latest season drops Sunday, June 21, at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max, with eight episodes rolling out weekly. Considering how House of the Dragon is one of HBO’s biggest current shows, this deal isn’t subtle. The company is clearly looking to bring in new and returning subscribers.

Here’s how much the HBO Max deal costs

The discount applies to yearly HBO Max plans. The Basic With Ads plan is available for $78.99 per year, down from its regular $109.99 annual price. Meanwhile, the Standard plan and Premium plan drop to $132.99 and 164.99 per year, respectively. This works out to a 28% discount on annual plans, and HBO Max says users can save more compared with paying month to month. The offer is available for a limited time and is listed as ending on July 15, 2026.

Just like most streaming deals, the catch is that you have to go for the annual plan for the best deal. The promotional offer only applies to the long-term plan over the monthly options.

Which plan makes sense?

For most viewers who just want to watch House of the Dragon, the cheapest ad-supported plan may be enough. The Standard plan removes ads and adds offline downloads, while Premium is the option for people who want more simultaneous streams, more downloads, and higher-end features like 4K and Dolby Atmos, where supported.

So it depends on how seamless or premium you want the experience to be. A strict budget makes the Basic plan look great, while the Standard plan, which removes ads, makes sense for most buyers. If you want the most flexibility, the Premium plan is the way to go.
