Meta wants to make its AI feel like a cute tiny friend through a newly launched pet journal app called Waddle World. Think of it as Tamagotchi, but the pixelated pet can actually chat with you and doodle little illustrations based on what you tell it about your day. Right now, this free app is available on iOS and Android only in the Philippines, with access limited to adults.

Waddle World is a pet that wants to know about your day

Waddle World bills itself as “a daily journal disguised as a pet,” and that’s a pretty fair description. You get to hatch a virtual pet, then talk to it by typing or speaking, so that it gets to know you over time. It turns your daily update into a journal entry in its own voice, complete with a doodle. The app also sends weekly emails based on what it learns about you.

Meta has added a few cozy mini-games too. For instance, when you need a break, you can stack groceries on your pet’s head, catch falling stars while dodging bombs, or spell words from scrambled letters. Playing earns points you can spend on food and toys for your tiny AI friend.

Meta is quick to point out that Waddle World is not an AI chatbot, assistant, or productivity tool. So there’s no pressure here because there are no streaks to maintain or scores to chase. Just a little pocket escape you can check in on whenever you feel like it. Think of it as a digital pet with a diary, powered by AI.

Is Meta making AI companions cuter on purpose?

Waddle World clearly fits into Meta’s strategy to make its Muse AI agent more approachable and friendly. You’ve probably already seen Muse, the company’s adorable AI, and Meta recently showed off tiny Charm gadget built around that same character.

Whether a cute pet makes you more comfortable sharing your daily thoughts with AI is another question entirely. For now, Meta has not confirmed when Waddle World might reach other countries. So the rest of us will have to wait and see if it spreads further.
