FAW’s five-door Bestune Pony has launched in China from 44,900 yuan, roughly $6,735. The tiny EV packs four seats into a cheerful little box just 3.35 meters long.

It looks like something you’d buy in a gift shop, but the layout makes room for everyday chores. There are four passenger doors and a rear hatch, so getting into the back doesn’t require folding a front seat out of the way.

What does that price buy

The new Pony is 350mm longer than the original three-door model. Much of that stretch goes between the wheels to improve rear legroom, while boot space grows from 81 to 265 liters. The weekly grocery run should involve less creative packing.

The entry model offers 222km, about 138 miles, of claimed range. A larger battery increases that to 328km, roughly 204 miles, on higher trims. Both figures use China’s CLTC testing cycle, so real-world range will vary.

A 40-horsepower rear motor delivers a top speed of around 64mph. Drivers get a seven-inch instrument display, with a 10.1-inch central touchscreen available depending on specification.

How does it compare with other cute EVs

Wuling’s four-door Hongguang Mini EV starts at 44,800 yuan, just 100 yuan below the Pony’s regular starting price. Chinese buyers already have competition at this end of the market, even if the prices look startling elsewhere.

The Fiat Topolino and Citroën Ami have a similar appeal, though both are two-seat quadricycles. Citroën lists the Ami from £7,695 in the UK, with a top speed of 28mph.

The Pony carries two more passengers and reaches substantially higher speeds. Those are useful differences beneath the shared cute-car styling, although the prices cover different markets and vehicle categories.

Where can buyers get one

The $6,735 figure reflects the regular Chinese starting price. A limited-time 5,000-yuan launch discount brings the entry model down to 39,900 yuan.

FAW says overseas deliveries have begun, although its announcement doesn’t specify destinations. US pricing and a US launch date remain unconfirmed, so that bargain price comes with a geographical catch.
