Apple‘s redesigned Health app has made a return in the first iOS 27.3 developer beta after an unexpected disappearance last month. First showcased in September, the Apple Intelligence-powered overhaul was briefly available for testing before Apple quietly pulled it from the iOS 27.2 beta in October. No explanation was offered.

But Apple’s latest software update has another health and fitness addition that I find far more interesting. Apple Fitness+ is getting Gym Strength, a feature that could actually help people make better use of their time at the gym.

What is new with the Health app?

As per Apple’s announcement, the new Health app will use Apple Intelligence to assess the health and wellness data collected from its devices and offer personalized recommendations.

There are a bunch of additions, including Health Age, which helps users understand their health relative to their age, and movement assessments. The interface can also dynamically adapt to the user’s health information, making the data easier to understand. Apple has expanded language support as well, adding French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, and several others.

Fitness+ is getting something more interesting

Gym Strength is a new workout experience in Apple Fitness+ that can create personalized four-week strength training plans. It takes into account your experience, fitness goals, schedule, and even the equipment available at your gym.

Users can also choose the days they want to train, which muscle groups to focus on, and how long each session should last. Then you have recommendations for specific exercises, sets, reps, and the amount of weight to lift. There are short video demonstrations from Fitness+ trainers as well.

As far as actual utility goes, the workout plans can adapt based on how consistently you train and the progress made in earlier sessions. The feature works on iPhone and iPad, while Apple Watch users can log their exercises, weights, and workout metrics directly from their wrist.

For someone trying to get into strength training, figuring out what to do at the gym can be quite a task. Having a personalized plan that also accounts for your progress sounds pretty useful. I’d probably spend more time exploring Gym Strength than the new Health dashboard.
