Our phones have made it easy to capture our lives in beautiful photos. But that also means we shoot hundreds of photos every year and don’t look at them, as they keep collecting the proverbial dust in our phone’s gallery. Amazon’s new Alexa Photo Frame wants to put those forgotten shots on your shelf instead.
Amazon revealed the frame alongside several new Alexa devices, including a new smart alarm clock and a 16-inch Echo Show. It pulls pictures from Amazon Photos, which Prime members can fill up without paying extra for storage.
What makes it different from a regular digital frame?
The frame packs a 10-inch HD touchscreen tuned for photos. A semi-matte coating keeps reflections in check, so your pictures look like they came from a photo lab. The screen dims and brightens to suit your room, and the real wood border with off-white matting gives it a framing-shop look.
The real magic, however, comes from Alexa+. It studies each picture’s people, date, and overall vibe before putting it on display, so you mostly see cheerful faces in flattering light. It also keeps track of the calendar, so spooky family costumes show up around Halloween, not months later. And no, your random screenshots won’t make the cut.
You can also ask Alexa for pictures from specific events, and it will pull them up for you. Alexa can also match up moments taken years apart and display them together, like a kid enjoying an ice cream cone and then the same kid, now older, recreating the moment almost exactly. You can also record a voice note explaining why a photo matters.
Can you gift it to someone?
Amazon Alexa Photo Frame is the kind of product that makes a cool, thoughtful gift. You can set up a frame for a loved one with pictures and voice notes, and other relatives can beam their own photos to it. Your parents get new pictures of the kids without you lifting a finger.
The Alexa Photo Frame starts at $199.99 in Black, while the Birch and Walnut wood versions cost $229.00.
