Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out (2023)

Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out – Official Trailer (2023) Emma Tremblay

The lengthy title says it all and captures the tone of this comedy adventure sci-fi movie, which is the combination of a coming-of-age story and weird sci-fi that the entire family can enjoy. Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out centers around Itsy (Emma Tremblay), who moves to a new town where she meets her quirky new neighbor Calvin (Jacob Buster). He swears his parents were abducted by aliens aboard Jesper’s Comet, so the duo decide to write an exposé about it as they await the next annual visit from these celestial beings. But they discover that there’s a lot more going on than they ever imagined..

Also starring Saturday Night Live alum Will Forte, Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out has received surprisingly good reviews. Mike McGranaghan of Aisle Seat describes it as “Close Encounters of the Third Kind melded to a John Hughes film.”

Occupation: Rainfall (2020)

Occupation: Rainfall Exclusive Trailer #1 (2021) | Movieclips Trailers

Set in Sydney, Australia, two years following an alien invasion, Occupation: Rainfall is about a team of three who set out to explore an alien operation known as “Rainfall.” Meanwhile, survivors scramble to take cover as various areas, from a military mountain base to a U.S. intelligence base, are attacked.

As a sequel to the 2018 movie Occupation, viewers and critics were polarized on Occupation: Rainfall, so it’s one of those movies you’ll just have to watch for yourself to decide. On the positive side, Dread Central’s David Gelmini praises the “strong central performances and blockbuster-level visual effects” and calls the movie a “hugely entertaining viewing experience.”

Max Winslow and the House of Secrets (2019)

Max Winslow and the House of Secrets Official Trailer

Another great watch for the whole family, Max Winslow and the House of Secrets is a sci-fi thriller about a genius named Atticus Virtue who takes over a high school and gives five students the opportunity to compete for his AI-powered mansion. The five lucky kids set out on the journey where they meet HAVEN (Home Automated Venture), the AI system that runs the house, and the competition. Like a warped version of Willy Wonka, however, the kids are tested on their smarts and their morals as they seek to be named winner.

Starring Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Tanner Buchanan (Cobra Kai), and Marina Sirtis (Star Trek franchise) as HAVEN, Max Winslow and the House of Secrets didn’t get the theater attention it deserved since it was released during the COVID-19 pandemic. But of the selection of both critics and viewers who have watched the film, they have generally given it high praise as the movie has a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes.
